Swimming

Confidence in the water and beyond

Our Year 3 pupils swim at Wragby Pool as part of their regular PE curriculum. These lessons are taught by professional instructors from JB Sport & Education, who we work with in close partnership across our whole PE curriculum. Together, we ensure that children feel supported, challenged, and celebrated - whether they’re learning to float or fine-tuning their front crawl.

What parents can expect

  • High-quality teaching by JB Sports instructors, in partnership with our school staff
  • Small-group attention thanks to our small class sizes and well-supervised sessions
  • Inclusive, ability-based progression - children are supported at every level
  • A positive, fun environment where confidence grows naturally through success

Safety and support

We understand that every child feels differently about swimming, and that for many it can be a big milestone. Our approach is calm, encouraging and built on trust. Children are carefully prepared, and we work closely with parents to make sure each child feels safe, ready, and proud of their progress.

Swimming and the curriculum

Swimming is a statutory part of the national curriculum in Key Stage 2. Our aim is for every child to leave primary school able to:

  • Swim at least 25 metres confidently
  • Use a range of strokes effectively
  • Perform safe self-rescue in water-based situations
